 Formerly known as Oncidium ampliatum, it is now classified as Rossioglossum ampliatum var. majus. The native range of this heat-loving species is Central America to Venezuela and Peru. It is found in dry, hot, lowland forests at elevations up to 1,968 feet as a medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with large, oval, mottled, tortoiseshell-like pseudobulbs.
