Horticultural charcoal, or inactive carbon, is charcoal in its purest form. It’s an organic material manufactured through a process known as pyrolysis. It is a media additive that can be added to any potting mix (bark, coco coir, terrarium or terrestrial potting soil mix and others).
Benefits of Horticultural Charcoal
- Balance PH levels (helps raise pH levels, aka 'Sweetening'). Most orchids ideal pH is 5.8 - 6.5. Do not overuse. Ensure proper research to find the correct ratio and balance for your plants!
- Filter impurities, ward off harmful bacterial, fungus and toxins.
- Boost plant growth with aeration and drainage in soil, increase oxygen upkeep
- Eliminates odours
The size of this charcoal is perfect for the majority of orchid mixes for small to large fine rooted orchids. The particle size of this charcoal can very from 1/4 to 1 inches. Charcoal is not finely graded and some smaller and larger pieces may be mixed in. If used for finer plants and medium, you can easily crush the particles into smaller sizes.
