Phalaenopsis amabilis, or sometimes nicknamed the Moon orchid, is the national flower of Indonesia! In Latin, the word ‘amabilis’ means lovely. It is endemic to the Australian and Indonesian islands where it grows as an epiphyte but sometimes can be found growing as a lithophyte.  

Many of the common NOID orchids ancestral lineage can be traced back to the Phalaenopsis amabilis. The natural form of phal amabilis does not have this inner variegation, it is an extremely rare occurrence.
